Scammers are falsely representing themselves as educators looking for research assistants.&nbsp; It is reported that once students agree to the employment, they are instructed to perform a variety of tasks such as purchasing gift cards and forwarding redemption codes or sending money directly through digital payment apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pay close attention to employment offers where an email or job posting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Does not clearly indicate the company name<\/li><li>Comes from an email address that does not match the company\u2019s email address format<\/li><li>Does not give the employer\u2019s contact information such as the title of person sending the email, the company address, phone number, etc.<\/li><li>Offers a job with little interaction<\/li><li>Asks to pay an application fee or asks you to transfer money from one account to another<\/li><li>Asks to give your credit card or bank account numbers<\/li><li>Asks to send copies of personal documents<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember: DO NOT provide any personal information, especially Social Security numbers or financial information without verifying the identity of the recipient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you think that you have been contacted in relation to a scam of this nature, or have fulfilled requests of a suspicious nature, please contact Technology\u2019s Information Security Analyst, <a href=\"mailto:richard.phung@simmons.edu\">richard.phung@simmons.edu<\/a>, or call Public Safety at 617-521-1112.<br><span style=\"font-size:8px\">Icon made by Smashicons from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flaticon.com\/free-icon\/money_2297646?term=scam&amp;page=1&amp;position=62&amp;page=1&amp;position=62&amp;related_id=2297646&amp;origin=search\">www.flaticon.com<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Colleges and universities in the area have received reports of fraudulent employment scams targeting students at their respective schools.&nbsp;
